IS YOUR CHEMICAL SAFE TO USE IN OUR HOME?
We require that you wait at least 6 to 8 hours following the completion of the fogging treatment to re-enter. This is to give the fog plenty of time to settle and revert back to its inert state. When you re-enter, the treated areas will have a clean and fresh hydrogen peroxide-like smell but will be totally safe for anyone. This benign odor will lessen substantially after you air the place out for a few hours. Then, over the following two to three days will disappear. After our fog settles and dries, there will be a microscopically thin dry film on horizontal surfaces. The day after our treatment, a simple wet-mopping (just with plain water) on the hard surface floors is all that is needed before enjoying your home once again. If you have not covered other horizontal surfaces with plastic, you should wipe them down with plain water also. Waiting longer than the next day to wipe down surfaces can make the dry film more difficult to remove.
We have found some plants may show signs of wilting by our process and thus we recommend you remove or cover plants before the fogging process.
Pets must be removed before the fogging process and kept until the next morning. When the building is re-entered it is completely safe for everyone including pets. Fish can remain in aquariums however care should be taken to insure adequate supply of fresh (non-fogged) air to the pumps.
Occasionally, some horizontal surfaces such as painted or clear finished tables, desks or furniture may show some adverse effects from the moisture inherent in our fog. You should cover any of these items that you are concerned about with a lightweight plastic before our treatment to avoid any possible negative effects.
- Around Painted Wood Trim?
We have found no adverse effects on painted wood trim.
- Around Electronic Equipment?
All electrical devices should be un-plugged during the fogging process. No adverse effects have been detected on any electronic equipment from our fogging processes.
In a few rare instances, we have found that our fog may have a slight lightening effect on some dark or colorful fabric items. To be safe, we recommend you cover these items with lightweight plastic before the fogging process.
Please put away any unprotected (non-framed or non-sealed) photographs before the fogging process. In tests, we have found that a photograph lying on a horizontal surface can be lightened by our fogging.
Please put away any important papers that have been printed with colored ink or are colored paper. We have found that our fog may lighten the colors on these items.
CAN YOU COME OUT AND INSPECT OUR HOUSE FOR MOLD?
No. We only do mold remediation. We do not do inspections or refer out mold inspectors. There is a simple reason why we have that policy. It could be a serious conflict of interest for one company to do both remediation and inspection. It would be too easy for the company that does inspection and remediation to exaggerate (or invent) the presence of mold just to get the remediation job. That would be fraudulent and would cause the homeowner to spend money unnecessarily. What could be worse though is if there actually was mold infecting the home and the company compromised on their test results just to get the job done and get paid.
We also do not refer out mold inspectors for the same reason - possible conflict of interest.
The bottom line is this - we strongly believe you should never hire the same company to do both inspection and remediation.
WHAT IS YOUR MOLD KILLING CHEMICAL & WHY IS IT BETTER?
Our patented, proprietary, mold-killing chemical is derived from a base product developed about 10 years ago for the U.S. Military. It was designed to decontaminate military equipment from possible chemical and biological warfare agents. We purchased the rights to use this chemical early in 2005. Independent laboratory tests have shown that this formulation is very effective in killing a wide variety of microbial activity (mold) and eliminating the mycotoxins (poisons) that are produced by mold. The formulation is non-toxic and benign.
- Why is your mold-killing chemical solution better?
No other product has been found to both, kill mold and neutralize mycotoxins (the poisons associated with mold), while being non-toxic, non-flammable and environmentally friendly. Additionally, this product is the most cost-effective process available that can eliminate mold and mold by-products (mycotoxins). Our product has the potential to drastically reduce your mold neutralization expenses by eliminating many of the steps that old fashioned methods required.
WHAT IS “FOGGING” AND WHY IS IT BETTER?
Application of our mold-killing solution with a commercial fogging machine produces an aerosolized fog with particulate sizes ranging from 10-30 microns. This method is particularly effective in the decontamination of mold-affected areas because it allows the chemical to linger in the air and thus is able to decontaminate not only the exposed surface areas but the exposed air spaces as well. This means all areas are treated at once thus ensuring complete decontamination. An additional benefit is that the fog reaches deep into nooks and crannies where other sprays and foams can’t go.
WHAT DO YOU CHARGE FOR YOUR SERVICE?
We do not put prices on the website. You can call us at 888-308-6653 for a free over-the-phone price quote on your job.
CAN YOU DECONTAMINATE OUR HEATING AND A/C DUCTS?
Yes. As part of our operation we disperse our fog solution into the cold air returns of your HVAC system to decontaminate the surfaces from mold, mold spores, mycotoxins and bacteria. We need to have you remove your HVAC filter prior to our treatment so we can send our mold-killing fog throughout the entire duct system unimpeded. Please note that if there are any areas in your duct work which have little or no air flow, our chemical may have limited effectiveness in those areas.
WHAT IF I ONLY HAVE MOLD IN MY ATTIC (OR CRAWLSPACE)?
We can treat just the attic or just the crawlspace. Our process is much more effective at decontaminating these areas than other old-fashioned methods.
WHAT IF I ONLY HAVE MOLD IN ONE ROOM OF MY HOME?
Because mold is airborne, if it is found to be growing anywhere within a building, the mold spores are very likely present in other areas of the building as well. If the mold is producing toxic chemicals (mycotoxins), you will have toxic chemicals in the building as well. Old fashioned mold remediation methods do not address spore dispersal. In other words; remediating one particular area within a moldy building will not address the full scope of the contamination. One Day Mold Removal addresses not only the point of mold contamination, but also effectively deals with the spore dispersal, making our service not only the most cost effective but the most effective as well.
ARE THERE ANY AFTER EFFECTS FROM THE FOGGING?
We have found no negative effects as a result of our treatment. However, the dried fog does settle onto horizontal surfaces and leave a microscopically thin dry film. This dry film is normally not noticeable on carpeting or upholstery but must be cleaned off the hard surface floors, shower floors and bathtubs soon after the treatment to avoid slippery conditions when they are wet. We recommend using just a simple wet-mop process with plain water the day after the treatment. In some cases we have found a lightening of fabrics and unprotected photographs as well as dulling of the finish on some furniture items, CD’s and DVD’s. For this reason we recommend you cover (or put away) fabrics, photographs, optical disks and furniture before the fogging process.
DOES YOUR MOLD-KILLING CHEMICAL MAKE THE MOLD DISAPPEAR?
Not usually. Our process is VERY EFFECTIVE at killing and (and chemically neutralizing) the exposed mold in your building. But, the remaining dead mold will most likely remain visible. Keep in mind that this is normal and does not have any bearing on the effectiveness of the process.
IMPORTANT NOTE: With our process, the cleaning off of the dead mold is no longer a health choice, it is a cosmetic choice. So, you can clean it off or leave it there without worry. It will no longer affect anyone – even those who are highly sensitive to mold.
If you wish, we can clean it off for you but most of our customers (who want the visible mold cleaned off) choose to do it themselves to save money. Since our process not only kills the mold but also neutralizes the mycotoxins in the colonies, you can easily do it yourself with ordinary household cleaners.
If the mold is on drywall and the drywall has been saturated with water, it is generally recommended that the drywall be replaced instead of trying to clean it. Drywall that has been saturated with water usually loses its structural integrity.
WHAT IF MY HOME NEEDS TO PASS A MOLD CLEARANCE TEST?
If you need a certificate of clearance for your building, make sure only a “live spore” test (also called a “viable” or “culturable sample” test) is used. The reason for that is after our treatment, we know that the exposed mold will be dead (and neutralized) but those dead mold spores will continue to float in the air until they finally settle down to the floor and are disposed of through normal vacuuming or mopping. Even though they are dead and neutralized, it could take days or longer for them to settle down. In light of that, any test that does not discriminate between live and dead mold spores will not accurately determine the effectiveness of our process.
Our treatment will kill the existing, exposed mold in the treated areas. However, mold is everywhere in our environment including right outside your home. Knowing that, when your home is opened up following our treatment, it is inevitable that some new mold spores from the outside will drift into your building. This is normal and cannot be avoided, unless you plan to keep the house sealed up forever. Our money-back guarantee states that after your home is opened up to the outside air that the interior levels of live mold will be lower than the natural (outside) levels of mold or there is no charge for our service. We reserve the right to re-treat, if necessary.
WILL THE FOGGING HAVE TO BE DONE MORE THAN ONCE?
In rare circumstances of heavy contamination, some thicker mold colonies may need to be physically removed and the area re-fogged on a spot basis. While we do not clean off thick colonies of mold, there would be no extra charge if re-fogging is necessary to fully kill thick mold.
CAN YOU REALLY KILL OUR MOLD IN ONE DAY?
In a word, YES. Only very large buildings might require more time.
WHAT IF THERE IS HIDDEN MOLD INSIDE MY WALLS OR UNDER THE CARPET?
While our mold killing solution will kill (and neutralize) the mold that is exposed, it cannot go behind walls (or wallpaper), under carpeting, into mattresses or anywhere that a normal fog would not be able to go. Since we do not do any mold testing or inspection (due to a possible conflict of interest) we cannot know if you have any hidden mold or where it might be if you do have it. So, if you suspect there is mold inside your walls or other inaccessible area, we recommend you find out for sure before we do our treatment. Usually you can just track the path and destination of moisture that allowed the mold to grow and you will find any hidden mold. If the moisture went into the walls, you can probably assume that mold is growing there. To assist you in finding the source of moisture (and perhaps hidden mold), you can enlist the aid of an experienced remodeling contractor, a mold inspector or you could use a newer technology that makes use of special "mold sniffing dogs". The dogs seem to be very good for many reasons.
If it turns out that you do have hidden mold, you should have someone (before we arrive to do the treatment) remove any obstruction that would prevent our fog from reaching (and killing) the hidden mold. These obstructions may include drywall, insulation, wallpaper, carpeting, ceiling tiles or other building materials. At this point we need to tell you to PLEASE USE ADEQUATE PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT WHEN WORKING WITH LIVE MOLD OR EXPOSING NEW MOLDY AREAS IN YOUR HOME. Also, please cover the new drywall holes with plastic (until we arrive to do the treatment) to avoid exposing occupants to any higher levels of mold. For hidden mold behind drywall, you can simply drill some 3” holes (one in every wall cavity with hidden mold) in the drywall areas that contain live mold so we can send our fog inside that wall cavity. If you have insulation in these walls you would have to remove the insulation for our fog to be effective. If that is necessary, just make a larger hole and reach in to pull out the insulation by hand. You can have new insulation blown back in after our treatment.
HOW DEEP WILL THE FOGGING PENETRATE?
We can decontaminate surfaces of carpeting and upholstery with our fogging method but if deeper decontamination is needed it may be necessary to dispose of the item. As mentioned earlier, our fog cannot go through walls but it will reach far into the nooks and crannies of your home that hand disinfection methods cannot.
WHAT WILL OUR BUILDING SMELL LIKE AFTER TREATMENT?
Your home or building will have a fresh, clean smell similar to that of the disinfectant hydrogen peroxide. This light smell will typically dissipate quickly over the following two to three days.
I AM VERY SENSITIVE TO CHEMICALS. HOW CAN I KNOW THE CHEMICAL YOU USE WON'T ADVERSELY AFFECT ME?
We have treated homes for many people who have very high chemical sensitivity. We have not found any cases in which a building occupant experienced any negative effects from our product or our process. Additionally, on request we can send you a small sample of the dried chemical (on a piece of cotton cloth) so you can see for yourself if you have any reaction.
WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED? DO YOU WORK IN OUR AREA?
We work in all U.S. cities and states except Texas and Louisiana. Our goal is to provide the best possible service at the lowest prices. We have found that we can reduce our costs (and pass the savings along to our customers) by eliminating the need for 50 or 100 regional and satellite offices all over the country. We try to arrange for two or three jobs in each geographical area then we send one of our applicators out from our corporate headquarters to do those jobs. That’s why it takes us between seven and ten days (typically) to get to your job.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING MOLD KILLING?
Our product is a result of very cutting edge technology and was only available in late 2004. We obtained the license required to apply our chemical solution in February of 2005 and have been successfully killing mold ever since.
CAN WE CALL OTHER CUSTOMERS YOU HAVE DONE THIS WORK FOR?
We realize that it is customary for most businesses to offer a list of previous customers. Due to the legal, privacy and stigma issues surrounding mold contamination, it has been our policy since we began to not release any identifying information about our customers or their properties. For similar reasons we also do not have any signage on our vehicles. To help compensate for this, we have implemented our DOUBLE-GUARANTEE. The first guarantee is a 100% money-back guarantee. The second part is a 1 Year guarantee. With both of these guarantees in place it makes using One Day Mold Removal a TOTALLY RISK FREE DECISION. Also, we are members in excellent standing of the “BBB Online”. Feel free to check out our status with them by clicking on their logo on our home page. And we use only credit cards for payment to add an additional layer of security for our customers.”
